Awards Day!!
Awards Day was again a success. Many smiling faces, so many awards in writing, reading, math, technology, science, attendance and citizenship. There were students who received awards for high scores in Accelerated Reader as well as high scores in Academy of Reading. Proud students, proud parents and proud teachers were every where. Congratulations to all our young scholars for doing such a great job! Thank you to all our parents for supporting their students' efforts. Rounding Up Excellence Pep Rally

Williford's students and teachers participated in a Pep Rally for our Rounding Up Excellence Celebration coming up in March. Ms. Vandelli explained to the students what they would need to do in order to earn a ticket to participate in the Celebration. There were a lot of yee-haaas and cheering to get the students excited about the event.

Rocky the Reader Rabbit visits Williford

Rocky the Reading Rabbit visited Williford Elementary School. Rocky is the mascot of the Reading and Growth Story Services Program at Braswell Memorial Library. He made a visit to all the students in all grade level classrooms. Kindergarten through fifth grade students were happy to greet Rocky and get a hug.

 

Ms. Lakesha Joyner, Library Associate V accompanied Rocky to each classroom. Ms. Joyner comes to our school every other week to read with our second grade students.

 

Red Ribbon Week
Third, fourth, and fifth grade students participated in a Red Ribbon week Finale presentation. Officers of the Rocky Mount Police Department talked to the students about the negative aspects of drug and alcohol abuse. A beautiful German Shepard canine Cop accompanied his handler to the stage. The officer explained how the dogs are trained and cared for as well as how they are used to sniff out drugs and stop perpatrators.Of course the presentation would not have been complete without a visit from McGrugff the Crime Fighting Dog. photos
