Nash Central Middle Wins Middle School Battle of the Books

Nashville, NC – Teams representing all six middle schools in the Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools (NRMPS) district competed in the Middle School Battle of the Books competition on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. For the second year in a row, Nash Central Middle School (NCMS) won the competition. Red Oak Middle School finished second and Southern Nash Middle School finished third.

“Middle School Battle of the Books is a competition that requires participants to read a list of 27 books and each team is quizzed on the list of books read. Each round consists of 12 questions and teams must identify the title and author of the book in each answer,” explained Danny Plyler, NRMPS Director of Instructional Technology. After all teams have competed against each other, the team with the highest total of points from all of the rounds combined is declared the winner.

Meg Billups, coach of the winning NCMS team, reflected on the repeat victory. “I am so proud of my Battle of the Books students. They worked so hard, as did all of the teams. It was a close battle, which made it stressful and exciting all the way until the last round. Way to go, Trojans!” NCMS will represent NRMPS in the Battle of the Books Regional Competition in Durham, NC on March 24, 2017.
