    REQUESTING PRIOR APPROVAL for CEU Credits (No Funding Requested)
    Prior approval is necessary to comply with state regulations, which require an LEA to determine the appropriateness of awarding renewal credit for a specific event in advance of the event. Prior approval also helps to avoid misunderstandings regarding qualifying events and reduces the possibility of an employee paying to enroll in an event for which renewal credit will not be awarded.

    Prior approval is required for all renewal credit events that are offered by any entity other than the Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools or those entities that have been given prior approval and are listed as an Approved Vendor. The Approved Vendor list is updated yearly no later than August 1st to ensure alignment with the district's strategic plan.
    To request prior approval to earn renewal credits for attending a course, workshop, seminar, conference, etc., not offered by Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools or on the Approved Vendor list, the employee should request approval by submitting the Prior Approval form found on the NRMPS Professional Development website before they attend an event for which they wish to receive CEU credit. Failure to do so may disallow CEU credit. Requests should be made 3 (three) weeks prior to the start date of an event.

    The Department of Professional Development will review the request, make a decision with regards to awarding CEU credit for successful completion of the event, and inform the employee of that decision via their NRMPS email, including a copy of the signed Prior Approval Form. Approval / Denial will be given within 2-3 weeks.


    PRIOR APPROVAL for CEU Credits (Funding Requested)

    To request prior approval AND funding, employees should first consult with their immediate supervisor. If federal or departmental funds are requested prior approval and budget coding must be approved by the Director responsible for the requested funds. Once funding codes have been approved, the Prior Approval Process for CEU Credits is followed.


    AFTER AN APPROVED EVENT IS COMPLETED
    Upon successful completion of the event, the employee should submit a certificate of completion to the Office of Professional Development at the Teacher Resource Center

    If your event does not issue a certificate, you should submit materials that prove that you attended and account for the time you attended sessions. For example, if you attend a three-day conference, you should submit the conference agenda with notations as to the sessions you attended and the amount of time each session lasted. Do not count meal times unless they are accompanied by a conference activity such as a keynote address. Do not include time spent visiting vendor displays.

    Approved vendors for professional development are limited to ensure alignment with North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards and North Carolina State Board of Education Policy TCP-A-005. All courses must have a direct relationship to critical job responsibilities, school improvement plans and SBE strategic priorities to properly establish credit for any activity.

     

    THE SCHOOL SYSTEM RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DENY CREDIT FOR ANY ACTIVITY NOT DEEMED APPROPRIATE OR NOT HAVING SUFFICIENT DOCUMENTATION OF COMPLETION.
