NRMPS Teacher of the Year, Principal of the Year Named at Annual Banquet

Nashville, NC – An excited group of approximately 150 people gathered at the Rose Hill Conference Center at Nathan Hall to honor various Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools (NRMPS) educators during the 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year and Principal of the Year Banquet on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Deborah Vance-Glover of Cedar Grove Elementary School was named the 2018-2019 NRMPS Teacher of the Year and Sherri Wells, Principal of Middlesex Elementary School, was named the 2018-2019 NRMPS Principal of the Year.

She has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Marshall University. “I am just so excited, overwhelmed and humbled by this experience. I was not expecting this and I am just in shock,” said Vance-Glover. “I just want to thank God, my husband, my kids, my students, all of the wonderful people who I’ve worked with and all of the people who have mentored me,” she added.

Charlene Outland of Rocky Mount Middle School and Ashley Matthews of Northern Nash High School were named as finalists for the 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year honor. Each Teacher of the Year finalist received the prestigious Ben Craig Award from Keith Merrick, Market President of Wells Fargo Bank. She has a bachelor’s degree from Atlantic Christian College and a Master of School Administration from East Carolina University. Wells received National Board Certification in 2003. She currently serves as Principal of Middlesex Elementary School. “What an honor it has been to be nominated for Principal of the Year for Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools and then to be selected. I am very humbled and proud to represent our district,” stated Wells. Principal John Milliner-Williams of Parker Middle School and Principal Brian Hopkins of Northern Nash High School were finalists for the Principal of the Year title.

Chasity Lewis, Assistant Principal of Fairview Elementary School, was named Assistant Principal of the Year. Tineta McMillan of Parker Middle School and Rhonda Lamm of Northern Nash High School were finalists for the award.

Carl Smith, Jr. of Fairview Elementary School was named as the NRMPS First Year Teacher of the Year.  The finalists for First Year Teacher of the Year were Brittany Hartsfield of Rocky Mount Middle School and Tori Whitley of Southern Nash High School.
